What is a Diocesan Safeguarding Hub?

Many dioceses are using the Church of England Contact Management System (CMS) to keep track of the DBS and training records of clergy, Readers and diocesan staff.  However, some dioceses have asked if they can use a Diocesan Safeguarding Hub instead.

What features are common to both systems?

A Diocesan Safeguarding Hub and the CMS both provide the following features:

  • They keep a log of DBS checks and safeguarding training records
  • They can remind diocesan staff when upcoming DBS checks or safeguarding training is due
  • They can connect to the DBS systems supplied by ThirtyOne:Eight
  • They will soon connect to the Safeguarding Training Portal

What additional features does a Hub provide?

A Diocesan Safeguarding Hub also provides the following features:

  • Red, amber, green traffic lights that clearly show the current status of clergy, Readers and diocesan staff
  • The ability to limit someone's access to specific roles (e.g. someone might only be granted access to Readers)
  • A very flexible reminder system that will automatically send customised emails to when DBS checks or training is due (coming soon)

How much does a Diocesan Safeguarding Hub cost?

The Annual Fee for 2026 is £414 + VAT

Can we use a parish Hub instead?

No.

Parish Safeguarding Hubs were designed for parishes only, and they don't have the extra features needed by a diocese.  Furthermore, the use of a parish Safeguarding Hub for clergy, Readers or diocesan staff is not covered by our Data Processing Agreement with dioceses.

Can existing records be imported into a Hub

Yes.

We will be pleased to discuss this with you.  Depending on the level of support you need, we may need to charge a modest additional one-off fee.
